 At Mind Orientation,
we view dyslexia as a gift.

People with dyslexia think in pictures, rather than words. They are imaginative, brilliant problem-solvers who can devise out-of-the-box solutions using global logic and real-world smarts.

Mind Orientation’s strength-based approach recognizes these gifts and harnesses the mental talents that children and adults with dyslexia share to overcome learning challenges.

When students with dyslexia utilize their intuitive talents, they develop renewed self-esteem and confidence. When they begin to apply learning strategies that capitalize on their talents, progress is rapid.

What we are

What we aren’t

A visual strength-based program

A phonics-based program

Since students with dyslexia conceptualize in pictures, they have difficulty thinking in phonemes and syllables. Rather than forcing students to use a phonics-based approach that is inherently difficult for them, Mind Orientation teaches a visual and meaning-based approach that is much easier for students with dyslexia to learn and use. This in turn leads to faster progress than traditional instruction.

A comprehension-based program

A drill-repeat-drill program

Students with dyslexia need to understand how information fits in the bigger picture. They have difficulty remembering information that they do not fully understand, and methods like repetition and drills only serve to waste time and increase frustration. Conversely, our approach is based on mastering the symbols and concepts that are the foundation of learning. Once students have mastered those,  the information is inherently understood and the student won’t require belabored practice or review.

A mental-orientation program

A vision-therapy program

Dyslexia is a developmental learning problem that affects the way the brain processes information, rather than how it interprets sensory input. Students with dyslexia often experience distortions in perception, but these problems are caused by mental disorientation, not a result of vision or hearing deficiencies.
With the Mind Orientation approach, students learn to recognize disorientation when it occurs and reorient themselves so they can maintain focus and accurately perceive print on a page.

“My daughter is so much more relaxed and comfortable when she reads. And she’s following along in class! Definitely recommend the program.”
